The first step in Snookies training is to run a full blown low level instance starting with Wailing Caverns. I’m going to hit Ragefire later this week however my little Druid was sitting at the Crossroads so WC it is.
{There is a great list of instances over on WoWWiki (WoW Instances by Level) that we’ll be using to sort of track Snookie through.}
So he was sitting quietly in the Crossroads minding his own business at level 18. I popped a LFG and went fishing for Deviate Fish (catching 12 without any schools spawned) at the pools by the entrance to the Caverns. Within about 10 minutes a lvl 19 Rogue joined in. He was looking to get the Glowing Lizard Scale Cloak for the agility stat and had a buddy who was heading in to join us. I was looking to gather the four gems needed to complete the Leaders of the Fang quest to grab the Crescent Staff. No problem.
Skipping by the parts where various players joined then bailed on the party the Rogue’s friend showed up on his lvl 41 Pally. Not the high teens group I was looking for but the hour was getting late and there was a realm maintenance shutdown coming up in a couple hours so…(waddya gonna do)… in we went
The entrance down to the instance is not that hard with lvl 17 and 18 mobs wandering around though it gets a bit crowded the closer you get to the portal. Once we zoned in the Pally took off on a dead run aggroing pretty much everything in sight. Lots of lvl 16/17/18/19 Elites to contend with that would have kept a “normal group” on its toes for sure.
It was a whirlwind. Basically at a run we blasted through chambers, hallways and areas with little to no time to loot let alone skin anything. There are a good number of wandering slimes that seemed to have a big aggro range that I had to keep an eye on. The Pally was hacking and slashing everything in his path and the Rogue was right in the fray which kept Snookie on frantic healing duty with Regrowth and Rejuvenate spells.
While not really the kind of organized group practice I was looking for I did learn the Roots/Instant Grasp/Hibernate dance I’m calling the “Holy Crap Shuffle.” With the Pally getting every mob in sight fired up I spent a lot of time on CC duty for my own benefit. Root – Run – Heal – Run – Hibernate – Run – Instant Grasp – Run and so on.
There are several groups of Druids in WC that have a heck of a Druid Sleep spell that would put the Rogue and I out for over 10 seconds a pop which was a little nerve racking. With the huge pulls the Pally didn’t have any time to help us out to much on the healing end when we got jumped and total deaths were two for Snookie and one for the Rogue.
In the end I was able to grab three of the four gems needed for the quest and gained a full level (well rested). Next time in the goals are to get the two quests in the “right eye socket” of the cave before going in, get the last gem and finish the whole thing with a full, level appropriate group. It was a good time and I look forward to running through it “for real,” hopefully tonight. Once WC is complete Snookie is going to try and get a shot at Ragefire before the levels build up to far. Till tomorrow!
