Inspired by a post over on TheBigBearButt, which was in turn inspired by a post on World of Matticus (thank you interwebs) I’ve decided to set some goals and paths for my young little Tauren Druid alt – Snookie -and so it begins: Building a Raid Focused Boomkin by a total PvE Noob.

I’ll make this much clear: I have no idea how to go about this. This is a first attempt by a very casual player. I’ll record as much here as seems useful for others attempting the same thing including the mistakes that are sure to come along the way. Research will begin next post and implementation of said research will be tracked.

My first few toons had no direction or desired outcome beyond having some fun. I wanted to play, wack people and generally screw around. It’s been a lot of fun so far yet I feel that I’m missing out on huge parts of the game. Now that I’ve got a toon approaching 80 I can see that there is a ton of things I’d have done differently (hindsight is 20/20 and all that).

With my main, Bolink, has succumbed to the brutal joy of the Battlegrounds for much of his life. Mass chaos and death dealing, willy nilly AOE’s, dropping Trees in the middle of a fray, spamming Tab-Moonfire/Insect Swarm on the entire Horde side  holed up at the Raid Hut in AV and so on. A good session is one where I hit the top 1 or 2 spots for damage on the BG charts. This is not something I regret at all (nor one that I can stop…must – have – chaos…) however I’m getting more and more curious about experiencing the far more technical aspect of middle and high end content.

So, what is in store for  Snookie? I’ve got three main goals for this little one horned dude…

Goal #1) The aim is to prepare this Druid to be a high end Raid guy when he grows up. My first shot at going this route so it should be interesting. The focus on my end is going to need to be not only on gearing correctly as the levels come by but also really understanding the role of a Boomkin in these situations. In PvP I tend to find a corner and unleash as much crap as possible in the shortest amount of time. From the reading I’ve done this is pretty much not the MO of a successful Boomkin Raider. Of course you need to be there with the DPS but it’s got to be controlled, specific and timed. Any advice along the way from you guys who are in the know would be much appreciated as the levels come.

Goal #2) Professions. Snookie is going to max out cooking, first aid and fishing to start. Secondly skinning and leather working will be the focus as well (any advice for or against these choices?). Even though he’s only lvl 18 at the moment I’ve begin working on the three base skills pretty good so far. After reading a post over on AlteracVolley.com, a great article about making cash via the Auction House with high profession levels, I want to be in a position to take advantage of high end leather working both for the toon himself and for the gold side as well.

Goal #3) Find and join a good causal raiding guild if there is such a thing as my playing time is just not what I’d like it to be. As mentioned elsewhere I’m a casual player at the moment. I’d love to be hardcore and, if my Powerball habit ever pays off, will be someday. After being in a guild or two over the years mostly to meet some folks, ask and offer advice and so on it would be good to really get into it. Having never made an effort to get on a schedule for raids, instances and the like it would be go to change this with Snookie (this is not intended to solicit guild invites but any recommendations on a casual guild with good people I can shoot for once I level this guy up would be great.)

So there you have it. Three main goals for the little Tauren. They are obviously pretty general at the moment and I’m sure they will focus a bit over time. Successes and failures will be recorded here for dissection by the masses. Any suggestions, comments, recommendations or cautions are welcome! Thanks!

Your profession choices are fine, but if I were to do it again I would go blacksmithing and jewelcrafting. More sockets + better gems is about the best min-maxing you can do right now for PVE, imho. Just food for thought.

I’ve heard the Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting combo around a few places. It makes sense, as you say, with more sockets and better gems…something to think on. Thanks!

After playing a Druid in the World of Warcraft casually for a while I decided to start up a little website. It's all Druids all the time here on WoW Druid.com! I'm not an expert, nor am I the best player ever to play a Druid in the history of the game. I just really like playing a Druid, running some Druid PvP and basically talking about this addicting game. Thanks!
