Okay…so. Operation “Make the Caverns Wail” is not off to a great start here. First attempt was a high speed hack and slash with a level 41 Pally that was akin to sending the Marines in against a troop of drunken Girl Scouts…who were tied up. Devastation, chaos, wailing, confusion and some crying ensued.
Attempt two: My timing for grabbing groups is way off lately. No luck on LFG for WC or Ragefire after a solid 30 min…on two occasions. The most exciting thing that happened was a lvl 80 Human Priest ran by and, cough, farted in my general direction. Sigh. Got lots of fishing in though! After casting for a bit I decided to find the two quests right at the entrance to Wailing Caverns that I could not, for the life of me, get to yesterday. The little yellow “!“s are there but…where the hell are the quest givers?
When facing the cavern entrance you’ll see the exclamation marks dulled out on the mini map dead center of the cave entrance. When you run inside the caverns they brighten up…but no quest givers. These little buggers are actually up top. Step back a ways from the entrance and you’ll see that the rock face forms a sort of face with the tunnel as the mouth and two “eye sockets” up top (see super helpful screencap below). The quest givers are up there in the right eye socket of the face (it’s right, your left as you look at it).

To get there run to the left of the cave mouth (as you face the entrance like in the screencap below) all the way around until you can get up on top of the hill that Wailing Caverns is set into. Jump up on the rock area and then, carefully, drop down a level. You’ll be standing on a rock ledge above the entrance. Next, very carefully, drop down another level onto a
rock out cropping slightly to the left of center while facing the pools. (If you try to drop down directly into the right eye socket you’ll just fall all the way and have to run around again) You’ll see a little cave there with nothing in it…this is the “left eye socket.”
Ease over until you can see the ledge to the right side and make the little jump. Inside is a Leather merchant and two quest givers there that have Deviate Eradication and Deviate Hides. No reason not to get these guys as you’ll be killing tons of everything Deviate.
So, new quests in hand I entered the cave and started farming for the hides and the drop rate was pretty quick. When you enter the main entrance tunnel after the cave entrance you have three choices. Straight takes you to the instance portal, right is a dead end and left is a dead end. I’d never been left so thats where I went. Low and behold I came across Mad Magglish who is a semi-invisible Goblin that holds a 99 year old bottle of Port (mmmm…port) you need for the quest “Trouble at the Docks” from Ratchet. He’s an easy non-elite 17 but the trouble can be in finding this guy.
So, to make long winded post about nothing happening a bit longer, I got a ton of leather, most of the stuff for the quests from the eye socket and will try again tomorrow for a “real” WC group to get the final gem for the Leaders of the Fang quest. Until then!
