Just had to put something down about the new Star Trek movie. Having a beer or two last night with a buddy when he asks, “Um…wanna see Star Trek?” My response, “Why not?” One more cold beverage each and a quick check of Fandango.com, and off we went. I’m not a hard core fan of the series, more of a passing interest kind of guy, but I grew up with the TV series and and have seen most of the movies. Quite honestly I was not expecting too much beyond a few good special effects. I was envisioning something of a cross between the latest “Lost in Space” movie and a tuna sandwich. Man, was I ever wrong. This movie was, in my most humble opinion, freaking awesome (if you are one of the four people who have yet to see this movie be warned – spoilers coming up).

The scene early on with a young James T. Kirk blasting down a dirt road in a Corvette with the Beastie Boys cranking in the background? Awesome! What a great way to set the tone for the movie…high speed intense stuff. Does anyone know what year that Vette was (or was made to look like)? I want to say it’s a 1964 Corvette but can’t seem to find the actual year anywhere – though to be honest I’m not looking all that hard this morning…waiting for the coffee to kick in.

The scene when the Enterprise pops out of warp into a huge debris field of wasted Federation ships? And they have to dive under the wreck of a ship and scrape the crap out of the engine cover? Great.

When Scotty beams Kirk and Spock into what “should be the cargo hold” of the enemy ship however they pop right into the center of the bridge and an instant blazing Phaser battle ensues…Great.

Kirk finding the “old” Spock from the future in the ice cave while running from the monster…Skywalker on Hoth, anyone? Or is that just me?

In general the whole Spock from the future thing was done pretty well in my opinion. They could have punked out and done some sort of super cheesey “Hey look! Nimoy is in the movie!” thing but this worked pretty good.

Escaping the black hole at the very end? Errrr….meh.

Bones: The guy playing McCoy it a dead ringer. I don’t even know what the guys name is (and am to lazy to Google it at the moment) but he did a great job. McCoy always struck me as a grumpy pissed off old dude with a perpetual hangover and this actor nailed it.

Scotty: Freaking love Simon Pegg…especially in Shawn of the Dead. He’s one fo those guys you look at and just laugh. Best line, “I’ve never transported three people from two locations onto one platform before! That was good, right?” and everyone ignores him. Funny stuff.

Uhura: My my my. I thought the  ”old” Uhura was a handsome woman. The new one could have her own show “Hotties in Space” or something. Wearing a uniform that extends a full 3 inches below the waist doesnt hurt either. She could, however, use a pound or two…bit on the thin side.

Spock: I know this actor as that guy from “Heros” and the only reason I know and like that show is, let’s be honest here, the little cheerleader chick. But Zachary Quinto not only is a dead ringer for Nimoy but did a really good job, imho, at playing the role.

If you’ve not yet seen this movie go see it. It’s well worth the trip. Even if you are not a big fan of the series in general is just a fun overall movie to watch. This is one of those films you “have to see on the BIG SCREEN” and you won’t be disappointed. Have at it.

I was a little split on it, but overall I thought the film’s energy outweighed the plot holes of the so-called “alternate history.” My dad was a Vette owner and buff back in the day, and I’d venture to say the one in the movie is a 1966.

Bones and Scotty were my favorites. They seemed to really study the original actors’ styles and played to them consistently.

After playing a Druid in the World of Warcraft casually for a while I decided to start up a little website. It's all Druids all the time here on WoW Druid.com! I'm not an expert, nor am I the best player ever to play a Druid in the history of the game. I just really like playing a Druid, running some Druid PvP and basically talking about this addicting game. Thanks!
