It’s about my third session running around in the Wotlk expansion and I’m getting a feel for the Borean Tundra. I’ve gotten back into the swing of clustering quests and knocking them out of the way pretty quickly. Most of the quests I’ve come across so far are forgettable. Lot’s of “go kill 10 of these” style quests so I just plow through them without much thought. One of these, however, did seem a bit weird.
On the northwest coast of the Tundra zone there is a nice little waterfall area that serves as a cross over point to an island to the west. There are a bunch of Murlocs there and through a couple of quests you turn into their friend, learn their language, meet their parents, come to know their hopes and dreams and so on. So I’m grinding away and one of these little dudes gives the the quest to bring him the Head of Glrggl (which I think roughly translates into the Head of Shamo).
Turns out this quest, and another given by a nasty little Murloc who was hanging out eating a dead whale on the beach, requires killing a bunch of Killer Whales and then killing the lead killer whale, old Glrggl himself. So I pop into the inter-coastal waterway and proceed to dispatch several of these guys pretty quick (finally I can make use of the swim speed glyph I got some time in the distant past on a whim).
After looting the quest items of the corpses of the minor guys I go looking for Big Daddy Glrggl. I’m assuming he’s either deep or further out towards the ocean (he’s out by the icebergs) so I come across him pretty quick. I can’t say this has ever happened before but I actually paused before I whacked him. The graphics were really pretty nice with the sun light coming in from above, this big orca swimming above me, an iceberg floating nearby…I almost brought a tear (not really).
So within a minute this thing is dead as a doornail and the quest is completed (4 gold for a whale head? Come on!) and the little band of Murlocs is now, apparently, my friends for life. The other guys across the water however don’t seem to like me so much. Probably from all the clams I had to steal from them.
Over all a fun area with nice graphics. If you’re running around this area doing these quests I’ve got tip for you. The clams are really, really small…and sparkle very faintly. That is all.
